The club had a great time at the holiday walk in Binghamton and the party at Grande's Italian Cucina. Twenty people showed up for the holiday party, sitting at one long table (we had the restaurant booked just for us!). Many thanks to Diane Donahue for the holiday party arrangements and the nifty FLRVC water bottles as goodies.

Sue Connelly reports that the first ever "Spooktakular" guided walk through the lovely historical Village of Homer was a success! The air was brisk with the hint of snow but the sun peaked out occasionally to keep the volksmarchers warm as they explored the charming but spooky village of Homer. The last part of the walk, the knowledgeable town historian, Martin Sweeney entertained with the haunted history of downtown Homer. A spirit before dinner drink was had at the local tavern, Dashers. The walkers gathered for delicious spooky dinner at the recently remodeled Sherman House on Main Street. (Yes, the former Briggs Funeral Home. One can only imagine the paranormal activity in this location!). Join the FLRVC members for a first ever "Spooktakular" guided walk through the lovely historical Village of Homer! Don't forget to mark October 17th down on your calendar. That is the date of our last traditional walk of the year, which will be held in Homer, NY. It promises to be a great walk, and will feature (for part of the walk) a guided commentary to the spooky and haunted places in Homer, NY. Dinner afterwards at a historic restaurant in town. More details can be found on the walk page for Homer (listed under the Traditional Events tab.) The Blueberry Festival walk last month was a big success. We got walkers from as far away as Virginia! There were a number of PA walkers seeking to fill their PA Counties books as well. The weather was nice (not too hot and no rain) and it was a very pleasant day. I've been told that the booth will be on the side of the green near the post office, so when you are looking for our table, head that way. Most years in the past, we have been placed on the opposite side of the green. Also, the 10K route will not be going on the rail trail this time. Instead, the route will be entirely within the city of Montrose going through the different neighborhoods.
Everyone had a splendid time at the Salt Springs State Park walk. Many thanks to Doug and Cinda Gausman for setting up the walk. At the club picnic, new officers were elected. The new club President is Sue Connelly (with Vicki Darrow as backup). Many thanks to Sue & Vicki for volunteering and to Doug for all his years of service as President. Our next walk is at the Montrose, PA Blueberry Festival, Saturday, August 8th. Sorry about the delay regarding the Jones Park walk blog post. I've been procrastinating on adding the photos and now am having technical difficulties. It was a great walk through the woods on a day that threatened rain at first but turned out to be beautiful. We saw a number of new walkers at this event. Many thanks to Doug & Cinda Gausman for setting this event up.
Our next walk, also set up by Doug and Cinda is the event at Salt Springs State Park, north of Montrose PA. The event is July 11, this Saturday. There will be a club picnic to follow, so feel free to bring some lunch and snacks. Salt Springs State Park is beautiful, and mostly shaded, and features some beautiful waterfalls. Hope to see everyone there this Saturday. |
