Liberty Bell Wanderers Visit

Club member Cinda Gausman reports on the Liberty Bell Wanderers' visit to Binghamton.

Today we had the fun of hosting The Liberty Bell Wanderers as they walked all over Binghamton.  It was a gorgeous sunny day with temperatures in the 70s and a slight westerly breeze. The flowers were blooming all around the city.  How gorgeous.

51 people arrived by bus from Philadelphia on their way to Niagara Falls.  We met them at the Y at about 11:00 where they refreshed themselves, stamped their books and took off on all the walks that Tom Simkulet has devised.  The city was bustling with office workers who have been inside for too long and needed to get out and enjoy the sun.  Restaurants were full as were picnic tables and walls along the rivers.

After completing their 5 and 10 k walks the Wanderers ate lunch at many of the 33 restaurants in the city.  We chose the "Two Rivers" walk, then the patio at Zona Grill after saying "hello" to our friend Connie Barnes at River Read Books. We said "goodbye" to the folks back at the Y as they boarded their bus and continued on North all saying how great the walks were.

You really must get down to Binghamton and enjoy one of Tom's walks.  They are great.   The nut shop, the coffee roaster, the beer breweries, and the book store are all waiting for you as are the restaurants. See your tax dollars at work when you look at the new downtown campus of Binghamton University.  Watch a game where the Mets play.
