Erie Canal Walk

Join us in a 5K/10K walk along the Erie Canal. The walk features flat canal paths and easy trails. The Butternut Aqueduct will be along the route.The walk starts in Ryder Recreation and Nature Area.
STARTING POINT: Ryder Recreation and Nature Area, Visitor's Center near Dewitt, NY.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS: Trekking with the Trees, You'll Never Walk Alone

TRAIL RATING: Trail rating is 1B; walk is on flat canal paths and trails.
ELIGIBILITY: All ages are welcome to participate; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pets must be on leash and owners must clean up after pets.
REGISTRATION: Event is eligible for acquisition of IVV achievement awards. One event stamp may be entered in event books. Fee is $3.00. Unlimited distance credit may be entered in distance books. You may walk twice using the same start card.IVV achievement books are available for $5.00 each. No refunds once event has started. Can walk free if no credit/award is wanted.

DIRECTIONS: From the south take 81 N to exit 16A onto 481N. Once on 481N take exit 3W toward Dewitt. After a very short distance, before Erie Blvd, turn right on Pickwick Road and immediately turn right on Butternut Drive. Remain on Butternut Drive for exactly one mile. Turn right onto Kinne Road, cross over the interstate and then turn left onto Butternut Drive. The parking area for the Erie Canal Trail is on your right. It is called Ryder Nature and Recreation Area.
From the North take 81 S to exit 29S onto 481S. Once on 481S take exit 3W toward Dewitt. After a very short distance, before Erie Blvd, turn right on Pickwick Road and immediately turn right on Butternut Drive. Remain on Butternut Drive for exactly one mile. Turn right onto Kinne Road, cross over the interstate and then turn left onto Butternut Drive. The parking area for the Erie Canal Trail is on your right. It is called Ryder Nature and Recreation Area.
WEATHER: Event will be held regardless of weather. Plan and dress accordingly.
REFRESHMENTS: Water and restrooms available at the start point.
