NOTE: The main entrance to the Glen is being renovated, so there will be construction, however, walkers can still use the main entrance.
Award: There are limited quantities of a picture magnet available.
Check in at Castel Grisch winery, and then drive to the start point in town. The route goes along Seneca Lake, through the village of Watkins Glen and then into beautiful Watkins Glen State Park, climbing up over 800 steps through the Glen. The walk requires a short drive to town from the start point. The route through the Glen is difficult and slippery. Walkers must wear footwear in good condition and pace themselves for a strenuous climb. Restrooms at winery and at start of glen.
Directions: From the south and east: take I-81 to NY 17West to Elmira, take Hwy 14 north from Elmira to Watkins Glen. Turn left on Highway 409 and follow Highway 409 north for 3/4 mile; turn right on Route 28; then bear right at junction with Route 23 and proceed 1/4 mile to Start Point. From the west: take I-90 to I-390 through Corning to Elmira if coming from the north, otherwise take NY17 east to Elmira and follow direction to Watkins Glen.
Eligibility: All ages are welcome to participate. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets, strollers or wheelchairs.
Registration: Each participant must register at the start point and fill out a start card. Start cards are turned in at the finish. Event is eligible for acquisition of IVV achievement awards. Fee is $3.00. IVV achievement books are available for $6.00 each. Participants may walk at no charge if no event credit or award is wanted.
Awards: A beautiful photo magnet or patch
