So, what is volkssporting, exactly?
We are a walking club based in the Binghamton/Finger Lakes/Cortland area of New York. Our club is part of a national organization called The American Volkssport Association (which is itself part of the IVV, which is an international volkssport association. There are volkssport walks all over the world. We would love to have you join us for a walk. Our walks are general 10K (6.2 miles), with an optional 5K for those who prefer shorter routes.
We feature two types of walks. Our "Year Round" walks can be done anytime. Simply go to the start point, pick up the directions, and go. "Traditional" walks are held on a specific day, or, more rarely, an entire weekend. You are more likely to find walking companions doing a traditional walk.
Where do we walk? Our year round walks are in Binghamton, Cortland, Ithaca, and (seasonally) Watkins Glen, NY. However, our traditional walks change every year. In the past few years we have walked Salt Springs State Park and Montrose, both in Pennsylvania. New York walks that we have done include Skaneateles, Bowman Lake State Park, Lime Hollow Nature Preserve (Cortland), Erie Canal State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park, Six Mile Creek (near Ithaca) and many others.
You do NOT have to be a member to do any of our walks. Feel free to show up and ask some questions. We would love to have you. For information on our walks, simply use the pull down menus. Use the Contact Us link under News if you want to find out more information.
