The Walkin' Waterfalls program has ended and books will no longer be sold. The deadline for completion of the program has passed. However, if you are still working on your waterfall book, they will still be accepted.
The Walk must go by a waterfall, i.e., one that can be seen from the walk route. There must be (approximately) a 10 foot drop to be considered a waterfall. Cascading, or stair step waterfalls are ok. Manmade spillways, dams, or fountains do not count as waterfalls.
Any sanctioned AVA event in the U.S. or Canada that allows the sighting of a natural waterfall qualifies for this program. Any paying participant of such an event is eligible to include it in the program.
It is not necessary for a waterfall to be named to count for the program.
The program will run from January 1, 2009 to December 31, 2011. Completed books can be returned until December 31, 2012.
A total of 12 different waterfall walks will complete the walkbook. There must be 12 different events, but not necessarily 12 different waterfalls. For example, Niagara Falls has multiple sanctioned events that view the falls. Insert cards are allowed, but write-ins are not.
An event may count for only one waterfall sighting even if multiple waterfalls are along the route. A waterall does not have to be visible year-round to count for the program--waterfalls that dry out mid-summer or freeze in the winter can be counted.
No duplicate event numbers are allowed. Walks can only be counted once, unless a new YRE number is assigned in a later year. Repeating the same event in another year is not allowed.
Upon completion of a qualifying Walkin' Waterfalls event, the event stamp shall be imprinted in the Walkin' Waterfalls Volkssport Program book. The participant should enter the walk's location and date of the event. Insert cards may be used if books were forgotten. Handwritten entries are not acceptable. This program is not retroactive. Events completed prior to the official start of the program and before the participant has registered for the program will not count.
You can count walks not listed on the official Walkin' Waterfalls event list, however please send Colleen an e-mail with a description of the walk.
Registration and event information is available from Colleen Hailey at 607-754-1979. To order books, send $10.00 to the following address:
